Piano Teaching

Whether you are an adult or child just starting, or improving, wanting to go through the formal route of grades or the informal route or just learning how to play better and better, I can help.  I was classically trained and I am always happy to teach pop and jazz styles as well.

As you can tell from the 'wedding pianist' and 'events pianist' pages of this website, I am passionate about the piano - with no limits as far as styles are concerned and I am keen to share his enthusiasm and sense of fun with the instrument to anyone who is keen to learn.  I make sure I balance the pleasure of playing music with the satisfaction of improving technique through scales, arpeggios, theory, sight reading, listening skills and other exercises.

Lessons are normally half an hour or 45 minutes for more advanced students. Fees are usually £17.50 for a half-hour lesson provided via video call and in some cases in person. I am fully DBS checked.

If you are interested, contact me to discuss the way forward and if I have any spaces. I will always start with a free no-obligation trial lesson.

Customer Feedback

I cannot praise Nigel’s teaching skills and incredible patience highly enough. In only 3 years Nigel has taken me (a mature student) from never having touched a piano before, to passing 5 exams and actually being able to play some beautiful pieces. At the moment Nigel is teaching me online (via Facetime) which is working extremely well - it’s very easy to forget that he isn’t sitting next to me, as the lessons online seem no different. Nigel’s enthusiasm for the piano has rubbed off on me and I look forward to my lessons each week.

Nigel has been a wonderful piano tutor for our child over the last year. His structured approach in breaking down the complexities into smaller bits to put at ease our child’s anxieties, is a breath of fresh air. At the same time, his firmness ensured that no piece cantered or stalled, but at the speed in which the composer wrote the piece. His professional approach allowed our child in exploring various pieces by adding rich tones to give each piece a unqiue character.

He supplements his tutoring by specifying additional resources to the various pieces through books and videos on Youtube.

Would definitely recommend Nigel to any pupil wanting to learn the piano.

Nigel has been my piano tutor for the last two years. I had no previous musical training or ability to sing, but Nigel through his patience and perseverance is now prepping me for grade 1 exam! Amazing tutor, who will always find an individual approach to each student and never gives up. Being able to play the piano was my dream since I was 5 !

I would recommend Nigel as a really good music tutor. He is patient and mild, while being thorough in terms learning the various aspects of music and the piano. My children really enjoy their lessons either in person or via Skype. They are developing their musicality nicely and enjoy seeing their own progress.

Known Nigel for almost three years now and found him and excellent teacher for my daughter. Has been great both in person tutorials and recently in online tutorials due to current situation demand. Highly talented and focussed.

Nigel is teaching my 15 year old daughter how to play the piano. She was a total novice and with Nigel’s patience she is now rattling up and down the scales, playing classical and even pop music, in less than a year. Very impressive
